"[...]Tragedies mark time and places in our lives, and the explosion of the Grandcamp is an experience that placed our city on the front page of papers around the world. It has been permanently etched in our minds. [...]Texas City epitomizes the triumph of the human spirit."
-Charles T. Doyle,
Former Mayor of Texas City

Thesis

In 1947, the residents of Texas City would face the largest non nuclear explosion in United States history. The tragic event destroyed homes, businesses, and crippled the economy of the rapidly growing city. An estimated five hundred people were killed and thousands were injured. Every remaining member of the community and people from across the country would come together in a triumphant effort to rebuild the destroyed city.
